Steven Albritton Encourages Fostering Pets

Local animal shelters and rescue organizations are always in need of a few things. Normally, it includes money, volunteers, supplies and adopters. But also included in that list are foster parents. Steven Albritton has fostered pets for years. For him, it is one of his most rewarding experiences.

Animal rescue groups usually pay for the medical care and supplies. You are simply responsible for providing a temporary home to the animal. Plus, it opens up space at shelters or rescues for more animals. Even better, fostering saves millions of animals from death each year.

“You don’t need a big fancy house or anything special to foster,” Albritton says. “All you need is the willingness to open your heart up to a homeless cat or dog. For each dog or cat that goes into a foster home, another one is saved or a kennel opens up at a shelter. Isn’t that something you’d be proud to be a part of? I know I am.”

In the past five years, veterinarian Steven Albritton has fostered more than 100 animals. His fosters are adopted to loving homes or sent to other rescue groups with more space. Their days are spent with a human, not inside an unfriendly wire kennel. They are given another chance at life.
